When asked why Weilos takes precedence over things like motion quantitatively the device itself, which focuses on the activities of trackers like Fitbit Flex or applications like RunKeeper to motivate healthy behavior, Wu said it was all about social interaction.

"From a quantitative independent application, the responsibility lies with you, and that can work for a small percentage of people," he said. "But I think a more structured social component, where someone else takes responsibility for his success in losing weight adds a lot, and being on your own, where many people are slimming factor falling with other solutions."
